Suspend a federal garnishment

By overriding the federal garnishment (those payable to the Receiver General of Canada) deduction for This Pay Only you can maintain the garnishment setup and target balances.

These instructions are not to be used to stop deductions for other types of garnishment orders including: support payments to provincial Family Responsibility/Maintenance Enforcement offices.

Tasks

  1. Open the current pay period. Click the Pay Period menu and click the Enter button for the current pay period.
  2. Go to the Deductions & Contributions page.Closed From the Payroll menu, select Regular Payment > Deductions & Contributions.
  3. Select the employee from the list.
  4. Scroll down to the Garnishment Deductions section.
  5. Enter 0.00 in the This Pay Only field.
  6. Click Save.
  7. This process must be repeated each pay cycle for which it applies.

Warning: Employers can be held liable for failing to make deductions in response to a garnishment order. As a result, for each pay period, it is your responsibility to determine whether it is still permitted / appropriate for you to continue to suspend federal garnishment order deductions. If you do not repeat the above process for a pay cycle, deductions will resume as normal.
