From Two Days to Two Hours: Powerpay Revolutionizes CRB Accounting’s Payroll Process

For more than twenty years, Christine Baichan, founder of CRB Accounting Services Inc., has supported a wide range of clients across Ontario, from law firms to construction companies and real estate brokerages. As a seasoned bookkeeper, she has seen payroll evolve from handwritten calculations to spreadsheets and eventually to automated solutions. Before Powerpay, payroll was still a time-consuming and fragile process, often taking two full days per client, with the constant risk of a formula breaking and collapsing the entire workflow.

Christine had tried other payroll platforms, including ADP, but found them cumbersome. The reporting was not as intuitive, the customer service lacked reliability, and navigating between different entities felt slow and inefficient. Much of the work still fell back onto her shoulders, with manual data entry, printing cheques, uploading information into banking portals, and troubleshooting spreadsheets that could derail hours of work. The pressure mounted especially during year end, when the stakes were highest and deadlines the tightest.

That changed when Christine adopted Powerpay, a solution she has now used for nearly a decade. What immediately stood out was the ability to key in information on her own time, paired with the reliable support she received whenever she needed help. Over the years, Christine has formed a strong working relationship with her Powerpay representative, Meaghan, someone she trusts and can rely on for clear answers and quick assistance.

The biggest transformation came from automation. Today, most of Christine’s payrolls run automatically, without her needing to touch the calculations at all. What once took days now takes a couple of hours, or sometimes requires no intervention at all. She can instead focus on higher value activities, supporting clients, solving business problems, and taking on new accounts without worrying about payroll cycles consuming her week. The workflow is smoother, the stress is lower, and she enjoys a peace of mind that did not exist before.

Although some onboarding experiences over the years have been bumpy, particularly around year to date imports, Christine appreciates that issues were always resolved and is encouraged by the improvements Powerpay is introducing. The upcoming self-guided onboarding wizard, redesigned dashboard, and more intuitive homepage experience align well with how she prefers to work, independently, efficiently, and with clarity at every step.

Across her decade with Powerpay, Christine has found unexpected value not just in the technology but in the partnership behind it. The combination of automation, reliability, and genuine human support has allowed her to deliver a better experience to her clients while continuing to grow her business.

Powerpay has not only made payroll processing easier for Christine, it has given her back time, confidence, and control, and for a bookkeeper managing many clients and many responsibilities, that has made a meaningful difference.
