Powerpay supports more than 46,000 Canadian small businesses with top payroll services. To deliver the best platform and customer experience possible, we continue to invest in the technology behind your business’s payroll experience. As part of that investment, Powerpay will be migrating to Amazon Web Services (AWS), a leading global cloud platform, further investing in payroll – done right.

Why Powerpay is moving to AWS

This move is a meaningful investment in the future of Powerpay. By modernizing our infrastructure, we are strengthening the speed, dependability, and resilience of the experience our great Canadian businesses rely on every payroll cycle.

For Powerpay customers (and future customers!), that means working with a platform designed to deliver:

  • A faster, more responsive experience
  • Greater reliability during peak payroll periods
  • Stronger protection for payroll data
  • Improved continuity safeguards to help keep operations running smoothly

Why did Powerpay choose AWS for our infrastructure solution?

AWS, launched in 2006, is one of the most broadly adopted cloud platforms in the world. AWS states that it supports millions of customers worldwide, offering more than 240 fully- featured services, with secure and innovative architecture being a priority. AWS has infrastructure in Canada (Central) and Canada West (Calgary), giving organizations like Powerpay access to modern cloud infrastructure with local presence.

How does AWS benefit Powerpay customers for their payroll needs?

For Powerpay customers, the benefits of AWS are practical: better performance, stronger resilience, and a more modern infrastructure foundation for long-term growth. AWS also maintains extensive security and compliance programs and states that it regularly achieves third-party validation for thousands of global compliance requirements, which helps organizations build with security, governance, and continuity in mind.

While the infrastructure behind Powerpay is changing, the way your business and team uses and interacts with Powerpay will not be impacted. As a result of this migration, there will be no changes or impacts to Powerpay's:

  • Functionality
  • User workflows
  • Login credentials
  • URLs (or bookmarked links)
  • Payroll data
  • System configurations

Scheduled Maintenance Window for Powerpay’s AWS migration

To complete the full migration to AWS, Powerpay will be under maintenance and unavailable during the following window. If you have payroll scheduling during this window, we recommend submitting in advance. The maintenance window is as follows:

START: May 2 2026 at 9:00AM ET
END: May 2 2026, at 9:00PM ET

We have scheduled this transition to occur outside standard business hours to help minimize disruption. Once the maintenance window concludes, the system will resume normal operations in its enhanced AWS environment. All customers are welcome to log back into the platform after the stated date and time of May 2 2026, at 9:00PM ET.
