Late or missing CRA/RQ remittances

Remittances are submitted based on payroll payment dates. CRA/RQ will send a letter anytime there is a break in the remittance pattern and will expect an explanation from the employer.

  1. Reconfirm your remittance frequency. If the remittance frequency is incorrect see Change government remittance frequency.
  2. Review your payroll records to confirm if either of the following scenarios apply:
    • A later pay date was used that caused the payroll to roll into the following month. In this situation, remittances would double on the second month, and no remittances would be made for the month with no pay date.
    • A pay period was missed and no remittance was made.
      Note:
      • CRA does not accept a nil report from Dayforce. Any nil periods must be reported by employers either online via their My Business Account or via a remittance voucher.

      • Revenu Quebec does accept a nil report from Dayforce. A $0.00 remittance displays with the report. No action is required by the employer when a zero remittance is reported by Dayforce. Nil reporting from Dayforce will stop 90 days after the last remittance and it is then the employer's responsibility to communicate with Revenu Quebec if there is no remittance.
