Step 5. Set Up Your Timesheet Defaults (Optional)

What is a Timesheet Default?

Timesheet defaults are the descriptions for those hours and earnings types that you expect to use most frequently on your employees' timesheets. By setting up defaults like "Regular Time" to display every time you enter an employee’s timesheet, for instance, you save yourself time. It's important to understand, though, that setting up defaults will NOT cause any automatic payments to your employees - you'll still have to enter a value for each pay element on the Timesheet screen to generate a payment.

Why do I have to do this?

If you want to customize your employees’ Timesheet screens to automatically display the descriptions for specific hours and earning types, select them on this screen. When you enter your employees' hours or earnings for a payroll run, the default descriptions will automatically display in the list boxes of the employee’s Timesheet screen.

You may also change your defaults as required. For example, if you have an earnings type such as a Bonus that is only paid out periodically, you may wish to add it for a the payroll run in which bonuses are being paid and then remove it as a default after the payroll run has been processed.
