Does Powerpay support employee self-service capabilities for accessing statements, modifying personal details, and viewing tax documents?

Yes! Powerpay Self Service gives employees 24/7 access to their payroll and human resource information, which means better transparency, autonomy, and efficiency. Through the self-service portal and application, employees can view and update their personal information, request employment verification letters, and access their pay statements and tax forms.  

With self-service, anyone with administrative access to Powerpay will have full access to help register and support employees, even the ability to simulate the employee experience to help support navigation questions.

We have unique payroll needs. Does Powerpay support garnishments, union dues, benefits and calculating pay for statutory holidays?

Powerpay was designed to meet the diverse HR and payroll needs of small and medium-sized businesses.   

Built to handle varying levels of complexity, Powerpay supports:

Can we set up different access levels for different users?

With Powerpay, employer administrators can configure role-based security to give certain users certain access based on roles and responsibilities within the business. Access permissions can be tailored by: 

  • Page-level access: enabling or restricting visibility to specific features or modules  
  • Department-level access: limiting data visibility to assigned organizational units  
  • Compensation access controls: restricting visibility to sensitive salary and wage information based on role

Can I pay contractors, directors, and pensioners with Powerpay?

Powerpay is designed to calculate and remit source deductions to the government and to pay employees. It can be used to handle more unique payment and year-end requirements, including issuing a one-off payment to a contractor, director, or pensioner.

What payroll taxes should I be paying?

Whether you’re doing payroll today or looking to open a business anywhere in Canada, here are the various payroll taxes that you’ll encounter:

  • Canada/Québec Pension Plan (CPP/QPP): Contributions made by both the employee and employer.
  • Employment insurance (EI): Premiums paid by both the employee and employer.
  • Québec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP):  For employees in Québec, premiums paid by both the employee and employer.
  • Federal and provincial taxes: Provincial tax rates vary based on province of employment.
  • Employer Health Tax (EHT): Employers operating in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador may have to pay this tax depending on total annual cost of payroll.
  • Payroll tax: Employees in Nunavut and Northwest Territories will pay an additional payroll tax.
  • Workers’ compensation: Employer paid premiums. Varies by province and industry.
